The project began by getting to know the young people and understanding their musical tastes and the type of music they wanted to create. It quickly became clear that they had incredible talent; they were enthusiastic, skilled and very capable.
The teenagers were very easy to work with and as a result, not much support was needed. The Familibase people showed excellent skills, and helped a lot with the creative process. The young people gave a strong boost to the Irish language through their music, and Raidió na Life got involved by recording one of the songs and doing an interview for the programme.
The group was already organised before the director came in, and that structure was very helpful for the work. The young people had played and collaborated together for years, and it was exciting as a musician to see the creative chemistry between them. James Peppard was the principal director, and his direction showed how to bring the group together to create high-quality art through the medium of Irish.
The project began in May and ended in December, eight months of intense but fruitful work. Up until that point, they were putting the final touches together and planning releases, concerts and videos that would showcase the music through Irish. There was pressure to record all the material, but there was a strong belief that the young people would do great things in the field of music and Irish language culture.
The experience was all-round beneficial and inspiring; new plans and ideas came from the community, and the project opened up avenues for developing further projects in the future. There was great interest in continuing to work with the group and creating more projects together.
