Fáilte Fite Fuaite

Fáilte Fite Fuaite began as a structured initiative to place Irish at the heart of community events. The project was planned through comprehensive mapping of the area: identifying stakeholders, community facilities (libraries, sports centres, parks) and the Irish‑language services available to newcomers and the wider public. This map provided clear guidance on who needed to be involved in planning and promotion.

A survey was circulated to measure interest and gather ideas; groups were asked whether they would like to host events, and valuable feedback was received that shaped the festival’s design. Collaboration with the community was central: Gaeilge365 worked with BÁC le Gaeilge, Céad Míle Fáilte, local libraries and other community organisations, and received logistical guidance from other departments within Dublin City Council.

From planning to delivery, the initiative took less than five months. As a pilot, it allowed for experimentation and learning to inform the following year. The aim is to expand the festival across the city next year in partnership with area teams, businesses and grassroots groups. The strong community support demonstrated that there is both interest and capacity to develop sustainable Irish‑language community projects.
